Expectations: Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance
When I was a kid, Ghost Rider was one of my favorite comic book characters. He was just an awesome concept, a demon possessed motorcyclist punishing evil-doers with his penance stare! Sadly, the first movie was a huge disappointment. I thought Nicholas Cage was just wrong in the role. Over the years, he’s garnered more of a reputation as this weird, quirky actor. Even in his action movies, he’s not what you’d typically associate with the term “bad-ass.” Additionally, the action scenes from the first movie were quite boring. Surprisingly, there was very little action, I thought, with the Ghost Rider, well, riding his motorcycle.
I am going into this sequel with great doubt. The one small amount of hope this film has is that the guys behind the Jason Statham movies Crank are also directing Spirit of Vengeance. The action in the trailer looks pretty good, and there appears to be a Road Warrior type long escort / chase sequence, which would suit this character well. I could care less with Nicholas Cage being back for this one though. He was wrong for the first movie and is still wrong for this role.
